The RTA collects a half-cent transaction privilege (sales) tax from its special taxing district within Pima County to fund its 20-year regional transportation plan. Annually, the tax generates about $85 million to fund projects and is the largest financial contributor of transportation dollars for regional projects. The committee is charged with developing a draft regional transportation plan that will address regional transportation needs beyond 2026. The new projects selected must meet technical parameters and match an available budget, based on projected new RTA revenues beyond 2026.
