PAID POLITICAL ADVERTISEMENT Remembering January 6th Light in the Darkness: A Time for Reflection and Hope Looming over our optimism, here at the beginning of a new year, is the specter of the narrowing of our freedoms of declining human rights, of widening divisions and distrust, and of increasing authoritarianism. We are all too aware of what is happening to those less fortunate, to those on the margins, and to those caught up in the ICE dragnets. We find it hard to believe what has happened to our security, to our commitment to each other and, inarguably, to our entire national ethos. Next Tuesday, on the anniversary of the January 6th insurrection in our nation's capital, we will pause to take time to remember and grieve, and to bring to mind what has been lost. We will renew commitments to protect the rule of law and honor the constitution. We will give heart-felt expressions of encouragement to one another. Some of us will be losing health care insurance or the ability to feed their children or the right to work. Too many have already lost the freedom to be known and seen for fear of arrest and deportation. Too many have already been threatened simply because of their gender, or color, or identity. Too many are feeling overwhelmed and hopeless. To support our resolve to help restore the US to a place of democracy, dignity and freedom, we will gather from 5:00 to 5:30 pm next Tuesday, January 6th, at the corner of Esperanza and La Cañada in Green Valley for a candle-lighting ceremony. We seek to become a Light in the Darkness" and a people of hope and encouragement. Please join us. Paid for by Green Valley Democrats and the Democratic Club of Quail Creek and We the People R Indivisible.
